Born in a bombing raid and surviving against the odds, my aim was to bring cheer to my family. Bestowed with a talent to paint I became an artist, mostly enjoying portraits. Between commissions I am working on a series called ‘feisty women’. I have been described as having emotional intelligence.

Oh crapballs…I know it’s just a question but I stopped giving any kind of interviews years or so ago….but ok….I’m I’m eccentric…terribly so, I don’t do well with pple in my personal space…I’m a prolific paint addict…obsessed with it…if I could eat paint I will..the colours..the smells…it fuses me..nature…funny enough I paint pple…a bit of a dichotomy I know…I think it’s because they fascinate me…trying to dig under their layers to see the colour of their souls I guess.

Being the son of Irish parents born in England, being told I’ll amount to nothing at the same time being told I must fight for everything believing in something that isn’t tangible but giving your life to it, which in turn gives you the tools to start something that you do not know where it will take you but you just believe in it so much it will survive when you have gone x my paintings and my children x life is brutal and brilliant in many ways xx

Thank you Sally for asking the question as to what it is that constitutes being me … being me is an ever evolving process and therefore a state of being with ever amorphous edges of all kinds … and yet , I can definitively state as I am in the present and also look back over my life, that the most important variable to me , in the equation that is me (to date) , is that I paint… I say that painting is my first language and English is my second … I have been painting seriously since I was eleven years old … I now paint fracturing states of divergent realities caught in the process of coalescing into a greater reality or coalescing to enter over a threshold of transcendence or liminal type space (The word liminal comes from the Latin word limen, meaning threshold – any point or place of entering or beginning.) … It could be said that I try to paint points of epiphany …

What makes me me? That’s a really tough question. I’ve had amazing experiences as a woman, a wife, a mother. I am a nurse, and a caregiver. I have felt life grow inside me, I’ve given life, I’ve saved lives. I’ve held the hand of the dying when they had no one. And, at the risk of sounding trite, I have learned through these experiences that the most important thing is to live for today. No regrets. No fears of tomorrow. Just embrace, and be thankful for the moment.

A personal set of paradoxes. Stillness – music; oceans – mountains, big skies – steep ravines; sun – moon; then there is my endless striving for an artist’s expression of what I observe and feel. I am getting old and am aware of how fast life rushes past. I love to sit and watch the elements from a centre of immense gratitude that I’ve been given this life.

I just love Art – I am excited by what is happening – the creative process, the ideas expressed by artists and political expressions. I am a humanist so my own artwork is figurative, expressive and emotional. I should say I come from a family of artists and designers and my husband is a painter. But I am a bit of a geek – I follow ideas in anthropology, archaeology, Australian History and politics and the environment. I am also a public servant in Canberra. We live in a bush city here so it is quite unique.

I am dyslexic, I see the world in colours and pictures frozen moments in time, I feel peoples energy like waves on the sea washing over me, I feel truth & pain in a crowed room which overwhelms me. I am Fairy dust on the wind or broken glass. I am a tree with my roots in the ground but my leaves reaching for the next world. I am an old soul in a new body.
